What is the Google Search Virus?

by on July 27, 2011

During the last year, computer browser hijacking has become a rather serious problem. One of these is the Google Redirect Virus. The main sign that your computer may be infected with it is pops up when you search for something on IE or Firefox. You’ll be taken to various malicious websites that have nothing to do with the subject you were searching for. It’s a Trojan type virus that affects not only Google but Yahoo and Bing as well.

One reason that it’s so dangerous and sneaky is because this virus comes in looking like a printer process. This tricks the operating system into thinking it’s just a typical driver installation. That makes Microsoft Windows assign administrative privileges. Then it attaches itself to a basic driver. Once it has entered your computer system, it’s so well encrypted that normal antivirus software can’t detect it. That’s because your antivirus system sees the driver as an original one and doesn’t react.

The Google Redirect Virus is known as a TDL3 Root Kit, or Alureon virus. This makes your desktop background image change, your programs won’t respond, and it won’t allow you to install anything that may help solve the problem. Currently, there’s not any removal tool that can work alone to rid your computer of this virus. However, there are other things that you can try in conjunction with each other that will clean your system permanently.

It’s a good idea to be prepared just in case your computer picks up this annoying virus. While your computer is virus free is the time to search for ways to get rid of the Google Redirect Virus. Find out all the information you can and then arm your computer to keep this virus from entering it. Learn what signs to watch for and then be ready to remove it if it attacks your computer. Being forewarned is the best way to be forearmed.

The Google Search Virus is simply another virus created by criminals to try to get to your private details. These are the people that prey on the innocent intending to make a profit from them. Every day more and more people are finding that they’ve been infected by the Google Redirect Virus. However, there are also more and more simple methods to remove this virus from your computer and protect you from being infiltrated by Internet criminals.
